My name is Jasha Soyka. I am a mixed media artist, perpetual traveler and creative nerd from Berlin. I portray queer beauty + courage + compassion. I combine traditional portrait and figurative painting with urban collage art and typography to not just paint a picture, but tell a story about that intriguing complexity of life - the contradictions, greatness, failures, fears, everydayness.
Compassion, courage and most of all the beauty, that is created through all aspects, tones and shades, is what inspires me. I love sharing that perspective through my work, hoping to make you think, feel and evoke trust in life. And if you look closely you might find that being here makes sense, appreciate life as a whole, laugh, cry, and allow that iridescent hilarious spectacle.
Growing up in Berlin, I have always been surrounded by art, music, activism, and a plethora of different communities. Being queer, born with disability, a child of migration, raised by a straight catholic & a gay atheist, and having experienced communism as well as capitalism, gave me access to many different worlds, ideas, experiences and perspectives. It made me endlessly curious, a passionate activist, cynically optimistic about the world, life and everything.
I was born 81 in Berlin, studied graphic design, audio engineering and animation, and worked as a designer/developer in sound, digital and print media. Since 2007 I am exhibiting and selling my art, creating award-winning animations. In 2016 I left Berlin and the work as a designer behind for good to travel the world with my wife & two kids and make art.
We're currently in Quintana Roo, Mexico.
